WhereFi — Privacy Policy

This policy now lives at https://privacy.technesium.com/wherefi/ , the single home for every Technesium app privacy policy. The full text is reproduced below.

Effective date: 13 August 2026 (last updated 4 September 2026) — Technesium Solutions Pvt Ltd ("Technesium", "we").

WhereFi measures your network. It does not measure you. There is no account, no analytics, and no Technesium server for your data to go to.

What we collect

Nothing. WhereFi has no analytics, no advertising SDKs, no tracking, no account system and no Technesium servers. We never see your test results, your network names, your router details or your identity.

Where your data lives

On your device. Every test result, site survey and history entry is written to your device and stays there. Nothing is uploaded. If you tap Share, the report image goes only to the destination you pick.

The speed tests

The Internet Speed test transfers randomly generated data between your device and Cloudflare's public speed-test service (speed.cloudflare.com) purely to measure throughput. The data is meaningless filler, generated for the test and discarded.

The app also makes a small connectivity check to Cloudflare (https://cp.cloudflare.com/generate_204) to tell "no internet" apart from "slow internet". It sends no information about you, and the reply it expects is empty.

The Wi-Fi Speed test never touches the internet. It sends measurement packets to your own router on your own local network and times them. It works with the internet completely down.

Your internet provider's name

To show which provider you are connected to, the app makes one HTTPS request to ipinfo.io, which returns your public IP address and the name of the network that owns it. Like any web request, that service necessarily sees the address the request came from; their privacy policy (https://ipinfo.io/privacy-policy) applies to it. We receive nothing, and neither the address nor the provider name is stored off your device.

Local network

WhereFi needs Local Network access to send measurement packets to your router and to ping it during a Wi-Fi check. That is the only thing it is used for.

The app also advertises and looks for its own private Bonjour service (_wherefi._tcp) on your network — but only to work out whether you have granted the permission, so it can explain why a test would otherwise read zero. It does not scan for, catalogue or upload anything about other devices on your network.

Location

Apple requires location permission before any app may read the name (SSID) and access-point identifier (BSSID) of the Wi-Fi network you are connected to. WhereFi uses it for exactly that and nothing else. Your coordinates are never read, never stored and never transmitted. Declining it costs you nothing but the network name on your reports.

Router and network details

The router brand, MAC/BSSID and IP addresses shown in the app are read locally on your device. They are not transmitted to us or to anyone else.

Deleting your data

Delete the app. Everything WhereFi ever recorded is on your device, so nothing remains anywhere. We hold nothing to delete, because we hold nothing.

Children

WhereFi is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Because the app has no servers, changes can only make disclosures more specific — they cannot grant us access we do not have.
